‘It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it’-Aristotle. Social Media was never an instrument for replacement of Human Interaction, rather it was meant to Augment it. But, as a sign of cognitive dissonance, People, in general, took it at its face value and have been using it as a medium which replaces human interaction, a medium which has become a place to air and rejoice collective bigotry. Everyone needed to understand the idea behind the availability of such a medium, instead, they let their cognitive biases take the charge and look where it got us today. Many prominent thinkers of our time have disabled their social media(: twitter etc) because People are merely using it to troll(with relevance to the question asked-thereby creating a negative environment-hence creating distance between people) whomsoever dares to disagree with any collective view. With the advent of various Social Media, we should be prudent in its use, use it as a platform for fruitful discussion and make sure we understand the core idea behind it before using it as a tool for creating rift between people and communities.
